Industry Facts & Standards
- Laser welding concentrates energy in a very small spot, giving narrow welds with little heat input and less distortion
- It needs tighter joint fit-up than arc welding, so fixtures and part accuracy matter more
- A laser cell is enclosed to Class 1 so operators can work safely around it
- On press lines, robots are timed to the press stroke and remove people from the die area
- Standards and safety: IEC 60825-1 and ISO 11553-1 for laser safety, ISO 16092-1 for press safety, ISO 10218 for the robots.
