Solution

Machine Tending Robots

Keep spindles cutting through breaks and night shifts with robot loading and unloading.

Overview

Machine tending robots load raw parts into machines and unload finished parts. In machining they can also wash, deburr, measure and place parts in outgoing trays.

We integrate robots with CNC controls, pneumatic doors and vises, and design pallets, drawers or conveyors for part supply.

How It Works

  • Raw parts are presented in trays, drawers, conveyors or bins
  • The robot loads the part and signals the machine to start
  • The robot unloads, cleans and stores or measures the part
  • The system supports multiple machines in one cell

What's Included in the System

  • Robot on floor, pedestal or track
  • Double gripper for quick part change
  • Part feeders: trays, drawers, conveyors, vision bin picking
  • Automatic door and vise interfaces
  • Safety fence or cobot-safe layout

Benefits

  • Higher spindle utilisation
  • Unattended shifts
  • Consistent part placement
  • Lower scrap

Industry Facts & Standards

  • Unattended running typically adds about 40-60 hours of spindle time per week without adding headcount
  • A double gripper handles a finished part and a raw part in one visit, which shortens the load cycle
  • When the machining cycle is long enough, one robot can tend two machines
  • Placement repeatability of about ±0.025 mm is achievable, which protects tools and reduces scrap
  • Standards and safety: ISO 10218 and the machine's own safety standard; guarding or safety scanners around the cell, interlocked doors on the machine.
  • Figures are typical ranges from public industry sources, not Zhiyan project results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one robot tend two CNC machines?

Yes, when cycle times permit. We plan the layout and simulate it before build.

Do I need a cobot or an industrial robot?

Cobots are good for small parts and open cells. Industrial robots are better for heavy parts or high speed. See cobot vs industrial robot.
