Overview
Laser welding concentrates energy into a small spot, producing narrow welds with minimal heat-affected zone. It is ideal for thin sheet, stainless steel, battery components and parts where distortion must be minimised.
Zhiyan integrates fibre-laser sources, welding heads and safety enclosures with the robot and the workpiece fixtures.
How It Works
- A fibre or other laser source delivers power through an optical fibre to the welding head
- The robot moves the head along the seam or a scanner performs remote welding
- Vision or seam tracking guides the beam to the joint
- A Class 1 laser enclosure with interlocks protects operators
What's Included in the System
- Laser source and chiller
- Welding head (fixed or scanning)
- Robot and fixtures
- Laser-safe enclosure and interlocks
- Seam finding or tracking
- Fume extraction
Benefits
- Very low distortion, so less post-weld straightening
- High welding speed
- Excellent for thin materials
- Clean, narrow seams
Industry Facts & Standards
- Laser welding concentrates energy in a very small spot, giving narrow welds with little heat input and less distortion
- It needs tighter joint fit-up than arc welding, so fixtures and part accuracy matter more
- A laser cell is enclosed to Class 1 so operators can work safely around it
- On press lines, robots are timed to the press stroke and remove people from the die area
- Standards and safety: IEC 60825-1 and ISO 11553-1 for laser safety, ISO 16092-1 for press safety, ISO 10218 for the robots.
- Figures are typical ranges from public industry sources, not Zhiyan project results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is laser welding better than MIG?
It depends. Laser welding is faster with less distortion but requires tighter fit-up. Read our MIG vs TIG vs laser welding comparison.
Is laser welding safe?
With a properly designed Class 1 enclosure and interlocks, yes. Safety design is included in our scope.
