Overview

Manual polishing and grinding are hard, dusty and inconsistent. Robots hold the part against a belt or wheel, or hold the tool against the part, following a programmed path with controlled force.

Force-control or compliant tools keep contact pressure constant, so results are uniform even when the casting varies.

How It Works

  • The robot presents the part to abrasive belts or wheels, or moves a spindle over the part
  • A force sensor or compliant flange controls contact pressure
  • Tool wear is compensated by sensors or timers
  • Dust is captured with extraction or water systems
